God's Water Heroes, Splash Into Living Waters

FREE Vacation Bible School or Sunday School Training & Curriculum

Water is God’s blessing, essential for all life!

We celebrate the accomplishments of the dedicated teacher volunteers who trained, organized and lovingly delivered the "God's Water Heroes" VBS program this year!

One of those leaders was Fannie DeCator who, along with Myra Smith, attended IPC's teacher training and boat tour of the Baltimore Harbor.  They coordinated the VBS program at Transforming Life Church of God where 15 volunteers led over 30 children to learn about water in the Bible, their local watershed, and how to be good caretakers of these local waters.  Following their experience of the VBS summer program, the children expressed their commitment to becoming "God's Water Heroes" by taking up a weekly collection of their coins in a jar "to help the Chesapeake Bay." What a wonderful outcome of their learning, putting their faith into action!  We are reminded of the story from Luke 21:1-4 in which the widow whose two small coins seemed insignificant, but who gave out of her generosityof heart.

The curriculum, entitled God's Water Heroes, Splash Into Living Waters, offers interactive games, activities, and learning for elementary through middle school students. The modules are: 1) Water at the Beginning of Creation; 2) Water is Life; 3) Trees for Life; 4) Loving Our Neighbor: Caring for Water; and 5) God’s “still small voice” in nature  (1 Kings 19:11-13).

This unique and exciting program enriches not only the children and youth of your congregation, but your adults and families as well. We hope to help deepen their appreciation and enjoyment of the precious waters that God has provided for all of us, and instill a sense of commitment to care for present and future generations through our watershed’s well being.

The program can be offered in a variety of ways:

-A half or full day camp with field trips in the afternoon to local Nature Centers, Parks or waterways (e.g. Baltimore Harbor &   Mr. Trash Wheel, Masonville Cove, Anacostia River, Jug Bay Nature Center, Accokeek Foundation).
-An evening intergenerational program beginning with dinner and praise service.
-A weekly Bible Study on weekday evening or Sunday morning.
